Cheese of the Month: March

For valentine's day I got Steve 'cheese of the month' from Lucy's Whey.  We've gotten it before and really enjoyed it.

This month we received the following cheeses:
Dante:  This cheese is made byWisconsin Sheep Dairy Cooperative in River Falls, WI.  While I am always a fan of creamy gooey cheese, this was actually my favorite cheese of the group.  It's a hard cheese modeled after Spanish Manchego.  I highly recommend trying this.
Birchrun Blue:  This cheese is made by Birchrun Hills Farm in Chester Springs, PA.  It's a full on blue cheese with earthy flavors.  To be honest, I've had other blue cheeses I like better and this one was just okay.  Steve liked it more than I did.
Coupole:  This cheese is made by Vermont Butter and Cheese Creamery in Websterville, VT.  This was a rich, creamy goat's milk cheese.  The center is dense and the edges are gooey.  It's flavor is a bright and fresh.

We love cheese and trying out new ones.  Are you a cheese lover too? Would you like to hear more about what we're trying?

  4. Yes, absolutely. I am a cheese lover and love trying new cheeses. The last one I tried was Ossau Iraty~ a sheep's milk cheese from France. It was perfect for a cheese plate!

  5. Arrrgh! You just made me crazy hungry! Yum! My bf doesn't understand my love for cheese. He gets really horrified when he sees me tucking into a bit piece of cheese at the kitchen counter... I'm glad in a way I'm not alone...

  6. I didn't quite enjoy cheese until I lived in San Francisco, and found myself wandering through the Ferry Building and trying Cowgirl Creamery. I loved it, and now find myself ordering cheese and buying it wherever I go.

My taste and knowledge of cheese is still rather elementary - I love a creamy cheese, but have yet to truly appreciate goat cheese. I like the description of the coupole though, and will have to give it a go. If only I had a baguette right now!

    Cheers.

  7. So glad to find so many of you are also cheese lovers! I've updated the post with a link to Lucy Whey's cheese of the month. It's pricey, so I got the 3 month option. I'll definitely continue to share the cheese we are trying!

  8. I am a cheese addict so this is the perfect gift I think... For myself! I went thru a blue phase for about a year, I couldn't get enough. Even managed to convert my husband. Now I'm onto goat varieties... Just wished I lived near a good cheese shop. this might be the answer!
Thanks for your sweet comment Becca!

  9. a girl after my own heart!!! do you know that cheese is addictive? no, seriously, IT IS! {my friends are used to me rambling on about this after a couple glasses of wine... well, what do you know?! i have just had a couple glasses of wine ;)} but, truly...there is an enzyme that forms in the process of making the cheese that triggers an addiction! okay, i'll stop rambling...loving this new monthly series! XO brynn
