Meg Biram has organized for a whole bunch of bloggers (listed
below) to participate in ‘Things I’m Afraid to Tell You’ series which was started by Jess from Makeunder My Life. I am sure many of you know about this series,
as there is a movement among bloggers for more transparency. So, here it goes, contradictions and all:
- I’m a bit of a homebody, and like to go to bed at 9:30 or 10 pm.
- ‘Social media’ is a bit of a daunting world to me. I’ve only recently learned how to use twitter. The whole nature of all of this being twenty-four/seven is a bit overwhelming.
- I want to be able to unplug, for as long as I want to, with no apologies needed.
- I appreciate the honesty of bloggers, and support the idea of transparency, but also firmly believe no one should feel they owe it to their readers to share very personal things.
- I don’t really exercise. I like to do yoga, but have only gone to three classes in the last several years. I do want to change this, but really lack the motivation to do so right now.
- Our apartment is often a mess, and we’re frantically cleaning before people come over.
- I’ve been scared of showing my personal artwork; but the support I’ve found has encouraged me to do so.

Cheers to you! I admit at first I didn't want to participate. I get annoyed that bloggers bend over backwards sometimes to please readers, or when I hear that readers get annoyed or have certain expectations of bloggers. Exhausting!
ReplyDeleteGo Becca! FYI, you're doing so well with the social media stuff - it's how I found you!! And please share more of your artwork, your sketch books are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am totally with you on the whole "homebody" thing. I would much rather hang out in bed with a glass of wine and read before bed VS. hanging with friends at a bar or someone's house- my fiance gets mad because he thinks I am not social enough- I love being with friends but more frequently love to relax and be sleeping as early as possible!

I soooo relate. I think being a new-ish blogger and looking up to these amazing chicks that have been around for a while and have mastered social media and their brand so well can be intimidating. It is for me anyway...
ReplyDeleteYou should most definitely keep showing your original art work, thats always my favorite part of your blog :)

You should definitely show your artwork! I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler-- you should be proud, girl!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite one of these I've read! I am so with you on your first and second, and I loved your point about blogger honesty. I'm honest on my blog, but I don't want to feel pressure to spill my heart to the entire world!
ReplyDeleteNew to your blog, loving it!
OMG, #4 was like comforting words that only my mama could provide. She's one of the few people in the world who can calm me down...how'd you manage to do that with one written sentence? Thank you for sharing these today, Becca!
ReplyDeleteHi Becca! Shout it from the mountain tops! Would love to see your artwork :) Your greatest weapon is that it's yours and nobody else's. We're finally able to go on vacation after three years of tight, tight budgets and I'm looking forward to nothing more than a place sans internet. Maybe I'll accidentally drop my phone in the pool hahah I hear ya!
ReplyDeleteI love being home and going to bed early more than going out. I'm glad that I'm not the only one!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind comments!! I really appreciate all of you commenting and engaging in this discussion :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your personal artwork!!! I was terrified to put mine out there, and honestly am not happy with a lot of it so I know the feeling. I feel like I'm capable of much better, and just need to throw myself into it... which means unplugging :)
ReplyDeleteAs a jewelry designer and just starting out with social media, I TOTALLY agree with you....sometimes I'm thinking, really, am I supposed to tweet a picture of my breakfast (ha) but I guess it's just going to take some more time for us. Really enjoyed reading your confessions!
